Adding Solar Power to Sailboats

Solar panels are one of the newest technical solutions for power. Solar panels are designed to create electricity from the sun’s light and energy. In recent times, the use of solar panels has skyrocketed, many residents find that the installation of solar panels into their houses has changed their way of living dramatically. Sailors find that instead of using batteries for powering their boats, solar panels are more effective. They are easier to maintain and somewhat easy to install. This invention may be the most efficient option for residents, but a downside to this piece of tech is that it is costly. The expense of this device plays a significant role in its purchase.

Solar Panels And How They Help The Environment

Many have heard about the rumor that the human economy is running out of sources for creating power and electricity. It is due to this rumor that solar panels and other types of renewable energy were created. Solar panels consist of a shiny surface that collects light. The solar panel collects light from the sun’s rays and converts it into electricity. The electricity is converted through the separation of electrons from atoms from the light. Solar panels are considered to be by far the cleanest and effective way of generating electricity. Previous sources of power that were used were mostly non-renewable resources like coal, which caused considerable damage to the environment.

Solar Power Installations On A Boat

Solar power may be used for providing electricity and energy for a home, but it can also be used for boats. Many sailboats are found that are powered by solar energy. The key thing that you need to know about mounting a series of solar panels into your boat’s power system is that the system consists of two independent systems. One of these systems is used to charge the boat’s batteries, whereas the other is used to provide the electricity from the panels. A solar charge controller is also connected to the system to avoid the cells from receiving more power than what is needed to power the boat. One of the most important things that you should take into consideration is the wire and panel positioning. If the panels are positioned in an area where it is constantly shaded, you will not generate any electricity. So placing your board on an open space like your boat’s roof is recommended. Also be sure to check that the sails and other parts of the vessel do not cast any shadows on the panel, as it will affect the charging time of the vessel. When it comes to the wire positioning on a solar panel, there are two options series or parallel. Both of these options are known to impacts the wire gauge that is needed. Series circuits utilize thinner cables whereas parallel channels use thicker wires due to their higher voltage generation. Due to the series installation being the cheaper alternative, many companies have designed to work with series circuits. So it is suggested that your wires are arranged in a series pattern to provide the best and safest performance.
